Full Circle

Painting has remained a constant in my life, even through periods when my relationship to the art world and my own studio practice grew distant.

I studied with Mernet Larsen at the University of South Florida, whose emphasis on critical inquiry and historical context continues to inform my thinking about art. After earning my MFA from Hunter College in 1991, I maintained a close relationship with painting through a long career in decorative arts, specializing in wall glazes, Venetian plaster, faux bois, and mural commissions. This work deepened my understanding of color, surface, and the material possibilities of paint.

My return to a dedicated studio practice emerged from a renewed interest in the discipline and traditions of painting, shaped in part by my experience as a scenic painter on the Apple TV production Severance. Subsequent study with contemporary painters and teachers helped me reconnect with the studio and reexamine my relationship to the medium.

Recently, my work has been included in Closer to Home, a group exhibition at the First Street Gallery in New York. I continue to develop my practice through sustained observation, experimentation, and an ongoing dialogue with the history and possibilities of painting.
